Agata Drogowska, Biography |
Agata Drogowska graduated from the Academy of Fine
Arts in Poznan, Poland. She earned Master of Fine Arts, and Art
Education, under supervision of prof. Jerzy Kałucki and prof. Alicja
Kepinska.Agata Drogowska wears comfortably multiple hats, as an artist,
filmmaker, and journalist.
In the season 2002-2003, together with Mirek Kaczmarek she was art
co-Director of the gallery "The Nation Itself" at the Polish Theater in
Poznan. In 2003, she organized the Campaign "Artistic Benches", on the
occasion of 750th anniversary of the foundation of Poznan. The first
edition of "Artistic Benches" took place between June 2005 and October
2007, and after achieving a great success, the event has become, every
Summer, one of the main components of the artistic scene in Poznan Old
Town.
Agata Drogowska immersed herself in the art films, with her 2004 debut
titled "Sick home, home sick". In 2007 she was a curator of the
presentation on theatre architecture, at the architectural exhibition of
the 11th International Exhibition of Scenography and Theatre
Architecture Prague Quadriennale. Agata Drogowska specializes in
curating art installations in urban spaces, including revitalization
through art of forgotten districts of Poznan.
After spending years in Poland building up her impressive resume, Agata
Drogowska decided to gain American experience, bringing her creativity,
multidisciplinary expertise, and Eastern European background into a
unique educational institution, the New York Film Academy. On February
5th, 2010, she graduated from the Academy, and its program in
Filmmaking.
In the Summer of 2010, she returned to Poland, and was a curator of a
project "Poznan in the lens of Ryszard Horowitz.", about the renowned
Polish-American photographer. In the same Summer of 2010, she started
working on her first film project, after graduation from the New York
Film Academy, a documentary about the female Polish artist Izabella
Gustowska. Izabella Gustowska is one of the most known and regarded
multimedia artists in Poland. Agata Drogowska is making this exciting
project, that she calls film within a film, both in Poland and US.
With a simple, but selective and engaging palate of oils, Polish artist Agata Drogowska's artwork contributes a series of charming and spirited minimalist arrangements. The works are made up of bright primary colors, laid upon angular, shades of gray. The figures are primitive, painted simply in heavy black line, the clothing refined to mere shapes such as triangles and rectangles.
